The Oak Lawn Branch was established in 1895. Its location made use of a former schoolhouse and the surrounding community, including many members of the Shaw family, worked tirelessly to make the then-named Oak Lawn Public Library what it is today. The building underwent construction in 1965 to create space for a children’s library, then again in 1990 for the addition of a new entrance and reading room. Today, the Oak Lawn Branch invites the public to delve into local history, offers extensive youth programming and provides the neighborhood with a family-friendly atmosphere.
