Come to the library and play Minecraft with friends in the same world! Participants play on library laptops and do not need their own accounts or devices. Beginners welcome!
Registration is required.
Adventure maps are basically saved worlds in the form of a zip file that you can download and open on your computer. Below are adventure maps we have used in library programs and recommend. However, please be cautious when downloading and installing maps from third-party websites! For instructions on how to install maps and resource packs, see the how-to section.
Resource Pack: None
Version: 1.6 or later (the texture/resource pack was designed for 1.6, but it seems to look OK in later versions).
Resource Pack: Mine Wars
Resource Pack: TSF Resource Pack
Please note, these "how-tos" apply to the PC version of Minecraft running on the library laptops and may not work for all platforms and versions. Minecraft is a collaborative game with a great online community. You can find a lot more information and post questions on websites like Gamepedia's Minecraft Wiki.
Install an adventure map
To install the adventure map, download the zip file and put the folder inside in the “Saves” folder in the Minecraft directory. The easiest way to go to the Minecraft directory is from the Minecraft home screen. Click on “edit profile” on the bottom left, then click on “Open Minecraft dir.” You’ll see a list of folders including “Saves.” Open the adventure map zip file and drag and drop the folder inside (not the zip file) into the “Saves” folder.
Install a resource pack
To install the resource pack, download the zip file and put the file in the “Resource Packs” folder in the Minecraft directory.
The easiest way to go to the Minecraft directory is from the Minecraft home screen. Click on “edit profile” on the bottom left, then click on “Open Minecraft dir.” You’ll see a list of folders including “Resource Packs.” Drag and drop the zip file into that folder.
Next, click “Play” and choose “Options.” In the Options, choose “Resource Packs.” There are two columns. To activate a resource pack, move it to the right column. You can move resource packs by hovering over them until a gray arrow appears and then click on the arrow.
Create a world with a seed
After naming your world and choosing “creative," "survival," or "hardcore" mode, click “options” and enter a string of numbers into the seed field.
Upload a new skin
Log in to your Minecraft account online and go to "profile." Click the "browse" button and navigate to the PNG file for your new skin. Click "upload" to save your new skin to your account. You may have to close and reopen Minecraft to see your new skin. Remember to press "F5" to change your perspective in Minecraft.
Play a specific version of Minecraft
Minecraft is always updating and releasing new versions. Your profile determines which version you will play, and if you haven't created an special profiles, you are probably always playing the latest version. However, older adventure maps work best on the versions they were created for, so you may want to play an older version of Minecraft if you want to play an older adventure map.
After you log into Minecraft but before you hit "play," click on "edit profile" on the bottom left. Create a new profile by changing the name of the profile at the top and then select a version from the drop-down menu in the middle of the window. Then choose save. After the window closes, make sure the name of the new profile you just made appears in the bottom left. If not, use the drop-down menu to choose your new profile. The message on the bottom right will change to "ready to play .." and the version you selected. Now hit play!
