Cranston, RI – The Cranston Public Library is pleased to announce that Tayla Cardillo has been named The University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS) Recent Alumna of the Year for 2023. Cardillo graduated from GSLIS in 2019 and has since worked as a Reference and Young Adult Services Librarian at the Coventry Public Library and now as the Branch Librarian at the Oak Lawn Branch of the Cranston Public Library, where she has worked since December 2019.
Cardillo is a passionate advocate for intellectual freedom and youth services. She is a Rhode Island Teen Book Awards Committee member and the Co-Chair of the Intellectual Freedom Committee of the Rhode Island Library Association. She is also a host of the library podcast, Down Time with Cranston Public Library.
In a statement, Cardillo said, “I am honored to be named the Recent Alumna of the Year by URI GSLIS. I am grateful for the education and support I received from the GSLIS faculty and staff. I am also proud to be a part of the library community in Rhode Island. I am committed to ensuring that everyone has access to information and the opportunity to learn.”
Cardillo will be presented with the award at the GSLIS annual gathering on May 12, 2023.
