Wireless
WHAT IS IT?
The Library has installed wireless access points at the Central Library, Auburn, William Hall, Knightsville, and Oak Lawn Branches (it's radio). Wireless provides internet access
from the reading rooms of these libraries. What do you need? You need a laptop (portable) computer and wireless card. The wireless card needs to have the correct
drivers installed (see your laptop and/or wireless card instructions).
HOW DO YOU SET IT UP?
On newer laptop computers, you may not need to do anything. Really. Just bring your laptop (with wireless card) into Central, Auburn, William Hall, Knightsville, or Oak Lawn.
The laptop will detect the wireless access point and ask you if you want to use it.
The network settings (TCP/IP) on the laptop need to be set to "obtain an IP address
automatically."
The Library can provide a limited amount of Technical Support at the Central Library
(M-F 9-5).
E-mail Paul Holliday (paulhy@nerdshack.com) for more information.
NERDS NEED TO KNOW
The Library's wireless access points use the 802.11b wireless protocol. The SSID is NETGEAR. The channel is 11.
